Purpose

Understand how other solutions address the same need, what value they communicate and which choices can inform the project. This procedure is a proposal: comparison breadth and criteria depend on the question.

Procedure

  1. Define the audience, need and scenario to compare. Include direct alternatives and different ways to solve the same problem.
  2. Use jado-researcher for official sources and documentation. Record links, dates and what you could verify.
  3. Assign reference research to the visual researcher; use mobbin-search for relevant patterns and paths. A screenshot documents an interface choice, not its effectiveness with users.
  4. Compare the same scenario: promise, entry, information hierarchy, steps, copy, error states and recovery. Mark unobservable parts.
  5. Separate observation, interpretation and opportunity. Check differences against your audience’s needs.
  6. Bring results into the marketing context and design alternatives.

Completion criterion

Each opportunity is linked to a need and source. Choices do not derive solely from taste or a competitor’s popularity; the comparison prepares hypotheses to validate in your own context.
