ID: shadcn.
What it does
Reads configuration, installed components, Radix or Base UI primitives, aliases, icons and Tailwind version. Consults component documentation and examples through the CLI before implementing. Reuses variants and semantic tokens, checks form and dialog composition and verifies added files. Updates are first compared with local customizations; overwriting requires an explicit choice.
When to use it
Use it in projects with shadcn or components.json when composing a UI, fixing a component, finding a block or updating its version. It is not an implicit request to migrate primitives or replace the project preset.
How to use it
Ask for it by name, or invoke it with /shadcn in Claude Code or $shadcn in Codex. Specify the component, goal and registry if requesting an addition. Provide local changes to preserve. Request a check of existing components, relevant documentation and a comparison of differences before updating.
What it delivers
- Component or composition consistent with the project
- Added or updated files and relevant dependencies
- Check of APIs, structure and customizations
Example
Compose the invitation dialog with the shadcn components already installed. Consult the project APIs and preserve tokens, aliases and the icon library.
Prerequisites
- The CLI uses the project package runner and may require network access for documentation or registries.
